Applying to be a NOHFH Partner Family
Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity uses three criteria in selecting partner families:
- need
- ability to pay
- willingness to partner
If you feel you meet these criteria and wish to apply for a NOHFH home,
please visit the ReStore
or email us
to add your name to our contact list. We will then let you know when the next selection process will begin.

|
NEED
1. You will be considered for a NOHFH home if your present housing is not adequate and if you are unable to obtain adequate housing through other conventional means. Lack of adequate housing may include problems with the following: water, electric, sewage, and heating systems, or failure to maintain municipal property maintenance standards. Also taken into consideration are the number, ages, and sex of your children compared to the number of bedrooms in your home.
2. The percentage of your monthly income that you currently spend on housing is considered to determine need. You will be required to openly and fully discuss your financial situation with the NOHFH Family Selection Committee.
3. You must currently live in Northern Ocean County (north of Lacey Township) and have resided in this area for at least one year.
4. You and your family will be considered if your total income falls within the range below:

ABILITY TO PAY
|
|
Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity does not give away homes.
Partner Families purchase the home from us though a no-profit, no-interest loan.
You will also be responsible for paying the real estate taxes and insurance on the home.
You will be provided with an estimate of the monthly payment during the application period.
The Family Selection Committee will then work with you in determining if you can afford this payment within your current financial situation.
|
|
|
WILLINGNESS TO PARTNER
|
|
NOHFH Partner Families are required to contribute up to 500 hours of "sweat equity".
Sweat equity is time spent helping in the construction of your home, other Habitat homes, and helping with the NOHFH organization.
The Family Support committee will guide you through the process.
You may also be asked to attend classes on such things as financial planning and home maintenance.
Partner families must also be aware that their names may be used in NOHFH publications and press releases.
